Be My Guest!

April 29, 2017

"Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty." – Coco Chanel

Who’s heard of wet-skin moisturizers? A cream you can apply in the shower directly onto damp skin? Until two years ago when I was given a free sample of Lush’s “Yummy Mummy” Body Conditioner, I had no knowledge of this seemingly magical product! I mean, how does it cling and seep into your skin when there’s a noticeable layer of water still saturating your epidermis? Lush’s conditioner made so much sense though and I loved rationing out every last drop of the delightfully aromatic moisturizer. It quenched my skin immediately and applied like a dream, and after patting (not rubbing) dry with a towel saves you a boatload of time while guarding you from ruining your skin’s elasticity by rubbing a heavy cream vigorously over your drying skin.

Years pass though, and I’ve never given wet-skin moisturizers a second thought (mostly due to the price-tag on the only brand that I knew carried it) until…

Lo and behold, while browsing the non-prestige skincare lines in Ulta, searching for something fun and new to use my $3.50-off coupon, I see Jergens now carries a miracle moisturizer for in-shower use called Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer ($7.99)! AND in five different scents! Oh and it gets even better…what if you could gradually tan AND moisturize all at once in the shower (because admit it, you’re just as wild about multi-tasking as I am)? That’s where Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer ($9.99) arrives on-scene to blow your mind! I was fairly content with my Old Faithful, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer ($9.99), but they just took “easy tan” to a whole new level.

I initially purchased the Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Nourishing Monoi Oil. It glides on thinly and evenly over damp skin and I can simply pat dry with a towel as most of the moisture by that time has absorbed into the cream. My skin feels a tad slick immediately following but I like that texture. Unlike coconut oil which takes hours to fully absorb into the skin, this product soaks up quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy film in its wake.

Since I had so much luck with the regular body conditioner, I jumped at the chance to try the Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer, choosing the Fair to Medium shade. The exact same in moisturizing qualities and application, this product claims to gradually tan your skin. I did notice a faint bronzed appearance, but I am terribly pale and it’d take multiple daily applications to get me “tan”. It was a tad splotchy in places, but I didn’t take as much time to be thorough and neat as I would with its tanning cream counterpart, so that’s on me! It didn’t smell as strongly as the Daily Moisturizing Natural Glow cream either which is welcome.

Sad to say, my very sensitive and problem-prone skin (I have keratosis pilaris) didn’t take too kindly to all of the change, so I’ve since set these wet-skin moisturizers aside for the time being until I can regain control of my epidermis. That is not to say that these aren’t fabulous products and that I wish they were my mainstays! They just aren’t suited for me personally. But you must try one (or both) and let me know what you think – I have a feeling you’ll fall in love with Jergens!
